ACTING BEGINNINGS

When Taylor started out appearing on the big screen in 2009, she ended up appropriately enough playing as herself in a cameo. In this case, she appeared in 3D through “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience” while singing rather than being herself backstage. Taylor also made a cameo in “Hanna Montana: The Movie” the same year.

Then, she wisely took up TV to show off dramatic ability. With four appearances in either movies or TV in 2009, one of the highlights was a dramatic acting part in “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.”

The following year, she turned to an ensemble piece. In “Valentine’s Day”, Taylor had a small but memorable role as Felicia, a high school friend of Emma Roberts’ Grace character. It was during this period when Taylor was going into a major ascent in her music career, so it took two more years before she had involvement with a movie. As arbitrary as her acting career seemed, she took on a new role that gave the impression she was barely fitting it into a busy schedule.

FROM THE "THE LORAX" TO "THE GIVER"

Doing voice work in an animated film is one way to stay in film without having to physically spend lengthier times on a movie set. You got the feeling Taylor had had a lot more aspirations on doing dramatic acting, though just hadn’t had the time to focus on it. Her voice work in “The Lorax” might have gone unnoticed if not for her being mentioned in the credits. Her speaking voice isn’t that familiar, and it was perhaps the message of the movie that persuaded her to take on the voice role more than anything.

Other than having a guest shot on “New Girl” in 2013, by 2014 it seemed like she was finally ready to take on more meaningful roles in movies. As brief as the Rosemary character is in “The Giver”, viewers got a chance to see a brunette Taylor emote (at the piano) in a way they hadn’t seen her do on the big screen before. The only question was what’s next and whether she’d be offered something more extensive so she could become the next powerful musical crossover into acting.

CATS

In 2019, Taylor is slated to star as Bombalurina in a movie version of the musical "Cats", alongside James Corden, Jennifer Hudson, and Ian McKellen. Tom Hooper, who directed "The King's Speech" and the 2012 film version of "Les Misérables", will helm this version of "Cats", which will start filming in November of 2018, according to Variety. Lee Hall wrote the script, and the music is, of course, by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

WINNING AN EMMY AWARD

In 2015, Taylor won the award for "Original Interactive Program" for her "AMEX Unstaged: Taylor Swift Experience", for which she served as an executive producer and, of course, star. The project was released after the debut of her “Blank Space” music video in 2014 and allowed fans to explore the video’s lavish set from all angles, thanks to a 360-degree camera.
