In 2008, then 19-year-old Taylor was the face of l.e.i. The brand was inspired by Taylor’s love for dresses which resulted in a collaboration of jeans and sundresses. The latter was released in February 2009. The sundresses were designed by Taylor and the l.e.i. design team and were made of 100% cotton and retailed for $14.
The sundress collection was very much like Taylor-cute, young, simple and casual, perfect for a day out in the sun. The sundresses were sold exclusively at Walmart.
“Sundresses are my favorite things to wear,” Taylor said of her new venture as a fashionista in an interview with New York Magazine. “In the summer, I automatically want to look bohemian.”
Although the multiplatinum-selling country singing sensation was adding her unique style sense to the collection, she didn't want to be looked at as yet another celebrity designer.
“I don’t look at it like I’m branching out as a designer. It’s not the Taylor Swift designer line or whatever. I like people who have worked their entire lives to become designers. I think that they have their place as designers and I have my place as a musician, and I’m going to pretty much stick to that.” -- Taylor Swift
