Call it the Taylor Swift Effect. It's been a month since the pop star famously broke her silence on her personal politics with a lengthy Instagram post, and she's continuing to have a major impact on driving young voters to the polls through Election Day on Tuesday, November 6.
Last night (Oct. 9) at the American Music Awards, Taylor opened the show with a revamped version of her hit "I Did Something Bad" complete with fierce facials, fire and (of course) her gigantic snake, Karyn, that reached the ceiling. But that was only one of her many moments throughout the night.
Taylor’s decision to jump into politics over the weekend, announcing her support in an Instagram post for two Democrats in Tennessee and urging her 112 million followers to register to vote, appears to have contributed to a flurry of last-minute registrations before deadlines in many states.
Taylor has issued a rare statement about her stance on the upcoming midterm elections. She posted a lengthy letter on Instagram Sunday night (Oct. 7), urging her followers to vote after educating themselves on the political candidates running in their state.
