"Spotify Singes" is a live acoustic album exclusively recorded by Taylor for the streaming plattform Spotify. It was released in April 2018.
"Spotify Singles", launched in 2016, is a weekly playlist that features two new songs from each highlighted artist. Most artists record one original song and one cover.
BACKGROUND AND RECORDING
Taylor recorded both of her songs at the Tracking Room in Nashville. She chose to do an acoustic version of fan-favorite “Delicate” from her sixth studio album "reputation" and a cover of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” during rehearsals for her "reputation Stadium Tour".
Taylor said she picked "September" for sentimental reasons,. She changed a key lyric in the song's chorus. While the original refers to the Fall Equinox, this version addresses a specific point in her personal life. The original lyric is:
"Do you remember
The 21st night of September?"
Taylor changed the date to the 28th of September. She may be referring to the anniversary date of her relationship with boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
The 28th night of September?
Love was changin' the minds of pretenders
Or chasin' the clouds away
Our hearts were ringin'
In the key that our souls were singin'
As we danced in the night, remember
How the stars stole the night away
Ahh-ahh-ahh
Hey, say that you remember
Ai, ai, dancin' in September
Ai, ai, never was a cloudy day
My thoughts are with you
Holding hands with your heart to see you
Only blue talk and love
Remember how we knew love was here to stay
Now, December found the love that we shared in September
Only blue talk and love
Remember the love that we share today
Ahh-ahh-ahh
Hey, say that you remember
Ai, ai, dancin' in September
Ai, ai, never was a cloudy day
Ahh-ahh-ahh
Hey, say that you remember
Ai, ai, dancin' in September
Ai, ai, golden dreams were shiny days
Do you remember
The 28th night of September?
Ahh-ahh-ahh
Hey, say that you remember
Ai, ai, dancin' in September
Ai, ai, never was a cloudy day
Ahh-ahh-ahh
Hey, say that you remember
Ai, ai, dancin' in September
Ai, ai, golden dreams were shiny days
And there never was a cloudy day
There never was a cloudy day
