Taylor, who has been teasing fans about new music for weeks — is expected to drop a song at midnight.
Taylor Swift’s metamorphosis is almost complete!
On Thursday afternoon, the Grammy winner, 29, surprised fans at a mural in Nashville painted by artist Kelsey Montague ahead of the release of her highly anticipated new song.
Fans began gathering at the colorful mural of angel wings — which has been rumored to be somehow Swift-related for weeks — in the morning and watched Montague add a “ME!” to the center of her artwork.
On her way to the Gulch area, Swift posted a video to her Instagram Stories confirming she was headed to the wall. “On Tumblr everybody thinks it’s not, they don’t think — they think it’s fake. They think it’s just like one of their theories,” she told her dad Scott in the clip.
“Okay so we’ve commissioned this butterfly mural to be painted on a wall in Nashville and put clues about the song and the new music in the mural, so I’m gonna go show up,” she said in another clip, finally officially confirming she’s dropping a new track.
Signing autographs and posing for selfies with Swifties at the mural, the superstar — who wore another pastel-hued ensemble — also commended them for figuring out she was going to be making a visit.
“You guys are amazing for figuring this out because no one knew we were coming. No one knew this was a part of the campaign and what we’re doing, so you figured out the clue,” she said. “You’re the best. I love you so much.”
Swift also hinted to the crowd that another “clue” would air on ABC Thursday evening.
Over the last week, Swift has stepped out in various colorful floral get-ups(including at a high-profile appearance at the TIME 100 event) and continued to tease fans about her upcoming music. She even showed off some of her new merch by wearing a cropped long-sleeved T-shirt with her name on the sleeve.
Swift’s new music will be her first since leaving her longtime home Big Machine Label Group and moving over to Republic Records and Universal Music Group.
