Taylor showed off her acting chops in Sugarland's music video for the track "Babe" that debuted Saturday, appearing as a redhead in the Mad Men-inspired music video for the dreary tune.
In the clip, Taylor plays the girlfriend of a married man (played by Superman Returns' Brandon Routh) in a story that unfolds to the tune performed by country duo of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush.
The song - which was initially written by Taylor and Train's Patrick Monahan for her 2012 record "RED" - chronicles the painful breakup of a couple. Taylor, who also contributed vocals to the track, dons a distinctive flame-haired 'do in the 1960s-set video directed by Anthony Mandler. In it, she appears to steal Nettles' husband.
The 28-year-old dons a bright pink skirt and sweater combo, with matching lipstick. Meanwhile, 43-year-old Nettles looks radiant in a bright yellow dress, a pearl necklace and her own throwback hairdo. Arrow actor Routh, 39, looks dapper in his Don Draper-style suit.
In the clip, Swift and Routh exchange flirty glances in an elevator and an office before ramping up their intimacy. Nettles eventually makes the grim discovery.
Sugarland's Bush, speaking with Entertainment Tonight on Saturday, described the video as "your favorite summer movie you haven't seen yet." "It's red-headed Taylor," said Bush. "Which I think is ... it could be a giveaway if you're a Mad Men fan, but maybe not."
Nettles told the outlet she found the video "cinematic," adding, "It's a period piece, if you will."
Nettles two months back told ET that "Babe" could follow the songwriting pattern of past Swift works, documenting the real-life heartache she experience amid a spoiled romance. "She’s very confessional in what she does with her songwriting," said Nettles. "She lives her life out there through it, and you will see. I'm going to close my mouth and let her tell that story - I'm going to let the song tell that story."
